Well here;'s a suprise. Another of the big countries fails to live up to the euro economifc stright jacket, the stupidity pact strikes again.
However this time it looks like the Commission might actually do something. Now why would that be?
Could it be that Berlusconi is unpopular in Brussels and Romano (I didn't campaign while Commission President honest) Prodi wants his job. Brussels, which has of course famously let Frankenriech of the hook, is unlikely to allow the same latitude with Italy. Prodi wants an early general election so he can become Prime Minister, once Prime Minister he can puill Italian troops out of the international coalition forces in Iraq, and he can leave Brussels on a high. Meanwhile Chirac and Schroeder can sit laughuing as an opponent bites the dust.
