Jack Straw over eggs the pudding
While I am also delighted that the Acession treaty for the enlargement countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia, not forgetting Cyprus and Malta) has been given Royal assent I do dispute some of the rhetoric with which this statement is couched.
Pleasingly I note that nationals of Cyprus and Malta - the two Commonwealth countries on the list - have immediate access, while the others have a question mark.
My contention however is with the statemant made by Jack Straw "enlargement, which enjoys widespread support across Europe", maybe amongst the political classes, but not amongst the general population who are extremely cautious about the experiment. In countries such as Germany and elsewhere there is increasing alarm about the rammifications of enlargement.
